The Director of Counseling is the senior-most member of any Starfleet Starbase or installation Counseling division and a member of the Senior Staff. They are responsible for the psychological well-being of all crew members and guests, as well as assisting and advising the Commanding Officer in diplomatic matters and conducting personnel evaluations with the Executive Officer and Command Master Chief. All Assistant Counselors and Counselor's Aides report to this officer, who in turn reports to the Chief Medical Officer.
On starships this individual is known as the Ship's Counselor.
