11: In one of the last instances of international cooperation on Earth prior to the Third World War, half-a-dozen extinction-sized asteroids are deflected from their Earth-bound trajectory and into planetary orbit. Over the next several years, they will be hollowed out, and environmental systems will be installed, converting them into O'Niell habitats. They will be named Vanguard, Moss-Offenhouse, NicholCorp, Starling, Brynner, and Roykirk.
